The Huni Kuin people, or “True People”, as they call themselves, mainly inhabit Brazilian lands in the tropical Amazon, and their lands extend to the foot of the Andes in eastern Peru. They had a very late contact with the Western world around 1940 and, even after decades of persecution, they managed to keep their traditions alive to this day. They speak Hãtxa Kuin (“true language”) of the Pano linguistic family and live in a bilingual reality, with Portuguese as a second language.
During the time when the westerners invaded their lands, for the exploitation of rubber and latex, hundreds of indigenous people were enslaved. Due to the prohibition of their language and culture, they where forced to practice in secret their sacred rituals, drinking “Nixi Pae” (ayahuasca) and singing their sacred songs until today. The spiritual practices have a prominent place in their lives. The healing rituals with their plant medicines are of immense importance to their well being and their view of the world and the cosmos.
Txana Yube (dressed in white with the big feathers in the photo above) and Txana Siã (sitting to the left of Yube) are named as ambassadors of the Nixi Pae (ayahuasca) by the elders of the Huni Kuin tribe. They are the most senior healers of their generation in their community. Now they are tasked to spread the knowledge, the healing, the prayers and the joy to the outside world. Both Yube and Siã have a strong ancestral lineage. They both come from a family of healers were their grandfathers, fathers, mothers, uncles and aunts are all medicine people (pajès).
Txana Yube Kayawe is the elder son of Seya from the Yawanawa tribe, and Shana the chief of the Huni Kuin tribe. He was born in the village of Novo Futuro, as a member of the Huni Kuin tribe.
Txana Yube was chosen by the elders as the bearer of the ancient Huni Kuin lineage of Nixi Pae’s (ayahuasca), sacred chants and healing knowledge. His knowledge of medicinal plants, sacred prayers and the art of healing is rich. He works extensively with young people in his community and shares knowledge about culture and ancestry. He is known in his tribe as the leader of the Nixi Pae sacred ceremonies and as great singer.
He is respected for his dedication to passing on and preserving his culture. He studied forest medicine and spiritual diets in his village. He went through a whole series of plant dietas (fasting) during his training so that he can create a strong connection with the plant spirits. This allows him to conduct healing ceremonies.
He learned the sacred art of sharing medicine, the chants and prayers from the elders, the ancient guardians of knowledge. Txana Yube is a messenger of the new age and and in the past couple of years he started traveling to Europe in order to share the authentic culture and spiritual heritage of his people.
Siã is a young Txana, and he is blessed by the elders to initiate people into the healing journey of opening the voice with the traditional Hampaya ceremony. He has followed the Mukah dieta (fasting training) and as a result his ability to share love and healing with people became so powerful, that only being in his presence we feel free and happy. Siã has been studying the path of healing and shamanism since he was a child. He comes from a long lineage of healers (pajés). He is one of the main singing forces in his community and this winter he traveled for the first time in Europe to share these sacred songs. His powerful voice brings much joy and guidance to the ceremonies.
The Huni Kuin culture is centred around joy, happiness and celebration. As such dancing, music and singing sacred songs are very important for the Huni Kuin people. During our ceremonies the healers will share with us beautiful songs which are healing chants that call upon the spirits of the forest, animals, birds, flowers, plants, sky, stars, moon, sun and water to transform humanity. These sacred songs are incredibly powerful in opening the heart and help us heal by revealing our true essence, which is not separate from nature or from each other. The Huni Kuin Ayahuasca rituals are usually full of vital energy, dynamic and calm at the same time as necessary. There is always dancing and singing until the morning and after.
Here is the schedule for our 3-day Ayahuasca retreat with Huni Kuin. People may choose to follow the full schedule or if they want they can participate in the ceremonies they only prefer. However, in order to get the most out of this unique opportunity we recommend that people sign up for the full program.

You will follow a plant based diet, which avoids all animal products, including meat, eggs, and dairy. During the preparation period which is usually a minimum of 7 days you are recommended to eat your food as plain as possible by avoiding lots of salt, sugar, and spices.
